Sam Hill: WebCam - Housepotting - History (part 1) Basically what Housespotting was was several webcams all around a student house in Reading, watching (in the end) 8 Reading University students, go through their University career and finally graduate. Highlighting all the fun and traumas along the way... The website (as the history of the site below shows) ran from 1997ish to 2000 and during that time received hundreds of thousands of visitors. The whole Housespotting event climaxed in a TV show being made featuring some of the cast of Housespotting - which was broadcast on Channel 5 in the UK. The website became famous for its logo and name, all done in tribute to Trainspotting the cult film of the nineties. ![]() > How the logo was made... 1997 - BathCam ![]() This was the original Housespotting website, and originally didn't actually have a webcam, but was instead setup to see how many people wanted to visit a webcam website. It turned out to be a stupildy large number - so the real webcam site had to be done... 1998 - Sam Hill's StudentCam ![]() The first ever proper Housespotting webcam website. Which featured an initial webcam running from a camcorders captured via an ATI TV card - and it worked - just! As you can see the Housespotting feel is beginning to appear... > Continues....
